Universal Robots has announced a major upgrade to its high-payload collaborative robots (cobots), the UR20 and UR30, allowing them to handle heavier loads. This enhancement aims to improve productivity and efficiency for users at no additional cost.
The payload capacity has been increased to 25 kg for the UR20 and 35 kg for the UR30 when operating in the top lift position. This increase is particularly beneficial for palletizing tasks and similar applications, making the cobots more versatile for industrial use.
Tero Tolonen, Chief Product Officer at Universal Robots, highlighted the company’s commitment to ongoing product development: “Our continuous testing allows us to unlock new features, and we ensure our customers can take advantage of these enhancements immediately. This upgrade enables greater productivity without extra costs, showcasing our drive for innovation.”
The update requires no additional hardware purchases. Users can unlock the new capabilities by upgrading to PolyScope software version 5.19 or later, a process that takes only a few minutes. Cobots shipped within 2024 will already come equipped with the updated software to support the higher payloads.
